About the Team
Natural Treasures Tours is a privatly owned business run by two Melbournians, Jeremy Redmond and Pierre Jacobsson, with great help from thier families and wonderful staff.
Jeremy Redmond is a Melbournian who grew up in the hills to the north west of the city. While living overseas and in other parts of Australia Jeremy realised the unique attributes Melbourne has in providing vibrant city experiences along with many great and diverse regional experiences.
Natural Treasures was established in 1996 as a small eco-tour business running 2 day tours of the Great Ocean Road. We were both studying Eco-Tourism in Melbourne when Jeremy and Pierre became guides for Natural Treasures Tours as well as taking on other roles within the business. In 2001, the business was purchased by Jeremy and Pierre. While introducing some new tours the focus has still been on the Great Ocean Road region and beyond. We are focussed on constantly improving the accommodation, vehicles and itineraries to deliver the best possible experiences.
We have based our tours around the principles of eco-tourism and try to offer a more rewarding and memorable experience than the standard sightseeing tour. While telling stories we reveal the contents of our Treasure Chests and pass around the artefacts and original written material which help explain the history and significance of the area. This interactive interpretation gives our guests a rare and unique perspective on the various regions travelled.
An example of our chests is the one we use at Loch Ard Gorge. The contents include a diary containing the accounts of Tom Pearce and Eva Charmicheal, the only survivors from the wreck. We also have some of the salvaged artefacts from the wreck as well as numerous photos. Another contains a piece of the 12 Apostles limestone, descriptions of the coastal erosion and aerial photos of the region.
We believe you should not rush your touring experience.
Our personalised small group tours (2-12 people) are designed to showcase the regions natural beauty, history and wildlife. We believe a relaxed touring pace with great food and accommodation while in the company of a friendly and enthusiastic guide is the best way to see the country.
Our tours are conducted in small groups of between 2 and 12 people to explore Victoria's fantastic array of diverse touring regions and stunning city. We aim to show these regions in a more thorough way through our relaxed, small group itineraries. These less rushed touring schedules help us avoid the crowds and give you more personalised experiences. Our small group tours of no more than 12 people mean there is less time spent getting on and off the bus and more time spent seeing the sites. Small groups also mean your guide can answer all of your questions and give specific, meaningful and personalised commentary. By keeping the sizes to small group tours our guides are able to give very personalized and thorough attention to the group making everyone feel welcome and involved.
Many of our tours are conducted along the great Ocean Road. This is an incredibly beautiful and diverse region. Our tours take in the coastal drive and small coastal towns along the route, the intimate experiences available with the wildlife in their natural habitat, walks in pre-historic rainforest, huge Eucalypt forests and rolling farmland, the shipwreck coast with all of its tales, the 12 Apostles, the limestone cliffs and many other formations.
This region is around a 600km return trip to Melbourne and about 8 hours of driving. Why would you want to try and do this all in 1-day?? A 1-day tour in a car will only be able to make a few short stops and is still unable to fit in the whole length of the road. It really is worth the extra day(s) to see it properly and relax while taking it all in!
Our guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. They come from various backgrounds but all share a passion for showing people our country. They all display a great level of customer service and have your comfort and enjoyment as a priority.
